Why Volunteering Matters

Volunteering isn’t just about giving your time, it’s about gaining something meaningful in return. Research consistently shows that getting involved in your community can boost wellbeing, build confidence, and help you feel more connected.

Back in 2019 the Time Well Spent Survey conducted by NCVO found that around two-thirds of volunteers (68%) said that helping out made them feel less isolated, with young people feeling the biggest benefit, agreeing that volunteering helped them feel more connected.

The most recent Time Well Spent survey shares that an incredible 92% of volunteers say they’re satisfied with their experience, and the positive impacts are clear:

  • 89% enjoy volunteering

  • 89% feel they’re making a difference

  • 88% gain a sense of achievement

  • 87% say it boosts their social connections

  • 75% report better mental health and wellbeing

Volunteering at Movement Park

Our Young Volunteers programme is being reinvigorated for 2026 with more placements, more structure and the opportunity to complete either a Bronze or Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award with us.

As a licensed Duke of Edinburgh Centre we’ll guide you through your award from start to finish, supporting you in our volunteer programme, learning a new skill (either here at Movement Park or with one of our local partner clubs), and organising a group expedition so you can tick off every part of the DofE journey.

How to Apply?

There is a simple two step process to applying.

1. Register your interest

Head over to our Volunteers page to sign up and explore the different roles available. Applications close on Friday 16th January, so don’t leave it too late!

2. Come along to our Young Volunteers Recruitment Evening

Join us on Wednesday 21st January to meet the Movement Park team. We’ll chat you through how the programme works, what you’ll learn, and the opportunities it can lead to. There’ll also be a Q&A session and time to talk one-to-one with staff so we can get to know you and what you’re hoping to gain from the experience.

After the event, we’ll contact all applicants to let you know if you’ve been offered a place on the programme.

Want to Boost Your Chances?

Just bring your enthusiasm. We’re not looking for previous experience, a positive attitude matters far more. Our young volunteers programme is designed to help you learn new skills, grow your confidence, and discover what you’re capable of.

You bring the effort. We bring the skills.
